Min-Jee had been rather quiet lately at school, of course no one would have noticed but her friends and her sisters. Why was she quiet? Simple. Her best friend had recently passed away, on Wednesday to be exact. He was so much more then a best friend though, he was like her other half, the friend who always held her, who let her sleep in his bed when they had sleepovers and she got scared, her friend who would let her drag him to every store in the shopping complex, the guy who listened and cared, who surprised her and made her laugh. Best thing he had gotten along well with Kaia also, but they were not as close as Min-Jee was to him.
His name was Rae Joong Li. He did not go to Won High, his older brother did, his older brother who was in University now. No Rae had gone to an all boy school. He had recently been killed in a cross fire on the streets on his way home from work. He had been shot on Tuesday and had slipped into a-comma only hours later. Min-Jee had rushed to the hospital, she staid all night arriving at school late and was falling asleep in all her classes, by the end of the day she was in tears for no reason, deep down she knew her friend had died and now being Friday she was quiet and to herself. The funeral was already set for tomorrow, she had been asked to say a few words but she didn’t know what to say. She was so upset, so angry, she just wanted her best friend back. She wanted the guy she had once played dress up with, the guy she had married when she was little.
Funny story as they had lolly rings on and walked around all day saying Mr and Mrs Li. They were 7 but it was cute. Maybe Min-Jee would have married him, maybe she wouldn’t have. She smiled at the thought and laughed quietly to herself. Her classmates glancing to her. She used to believe everything happened for a reason but now she was not so sure.
By the time class finished she was walking down the corridor and around the school by herself, she was not ready to go home, everyone would ask if she was ok and if she had thought of anything to say for the funeral which would just bring her down. She was angry at herself for not thinking of something to honour her best friend.
She opened the piano room door and looked around. She saw no one. She walked in closing the door, put her bag down and her jacket, took off her tie and un did the top button of her shirt feeling like she was being suffocated. She took out a recorder and walked towards the grand piano. She sat down and lifted the top. For several minutes she warmed her fingers up running her hands along the keys making random sounds trying to find something that took her fancy. The recorder was already recording. She closed her eyes and thought of her friend all the good memories and smiled softly before she swallowed. She opened her eyes a little and hit a key before more followed and then she opened her mouth as her soft girly voice flowed filling up the room. The idea was to try and get a song and have it all planned out for tomorrow, hopefully.
